A new museum in Sweden — the Museum of World Culture
The design by architects Cecile Brisac and Edgar Gonzalez gives the Museum of World Culture a robust and poetic frame for its activities. The building imparts a curious feeling of both timelessness and of being in a space in the present, in motion towards the future. The building has already been awarded Sweden’s Kasper Salin Prize for architecture.
The Museum of World Culture has its roots in the collection of ethnographic objects that, in various forms, have been an integral part of museum collections in Gothenburg since the 19th century. Many researchers and travellers have contributed to this substantial collection of objects and archive material that now makes up the museum’s base.
